The majority of the songs in this mix come from Spring 1996. “Fingers & Thumbs” and “One by One” take me back to the first circuit party I ever attended (and the first circuit party DC hosted). DC’s party, called Cherry, had some incredible venues that year, including the Mellon Auditorium and the Rayburn House Office Building courtyard. The original Cobalt opened that weekend, too.
I chuckle hearing “Feels So Good.” On a visit home that Spring, I met my mom’s boyfriend and his son Clint. Clint and I went clubbing one night and I remember riding around Albuquerque listening to that song over and over again in his red Mazda coupe. Oh, that was fun!
And the first time I heard “Macarena” I was with my friend Lynden at JR’s. It was a Tuesday night and he convinced me to go out for a drink after a New Mexico State Society meeting. (I wasn’t a tough sell.) We’re standing at the bar and the song comes on and we’re both like, “what the Hell is this??”
