At some point in 1996 I must have said to myself “remember when you listened to music that wasn’t a dance remix?” because this is a total pop music mix in a field of dance music mixes. Pop music as TV show theme songs seemed to be pretty popular in the 90’s with “I’ll Be There for You” as the Friends theme (opening sequence) and “Closer to Free” as the Party of Five theme (opening sequence).
Aug. 27, 2014 Update: I keep a list of “songs left to buy” for my old mix tapes and I discovered this morning that I hadn’t included “Ants Marching” and “Give Me One Reason.” They’ve been added.
- 1979 – Smashing Pumpkins
- Ironic – Alanis Morissette
- Ants Marching – Dave Matthews Band
- Son of a Preacher Man – Dusty Springfield
- Sick of Myself – Matthew Sweet
- Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Deep Blue Something
- Lump – Presidents of the United States of America
- Closer to Free – The BoDeans
- Give Me One Reason – Tracy Chapman
- I Love You Always Forever – Donna Lewis
- Good Intentions – Toad the Wet Sprocket
- I’ll Be There for You (Theme from “Friends”) – The Rembrandts
- I Wanna Be With You (The Floor Mix) – Fun Factory
Oh Bretters, this mix reminds me of my freshman year of college. How fun! And I *like* that it’s void of remixes. I am totally making this playlist.
Meggers, see the update. I realized I missed two songs on the playlist.
