Telling My Story
Today was my first ride in my 2016 Thousand Mile Bike Challenge and it felt really good!
Update: today I broke 500 miles and I’m only at the five-month mark! And to make it even better, I beat my best time for a 25 mile ride by over 13 minutes!
Today I hit a personal best of 30 miles with my turnaround point at Mt. Vernon.
Turns out I missed mile marker 3, my turnaround point on the Mt. Vernon trail, and ended up turning around just shy of mile marker 2 resulting in a 25.2 mile ride.
In the past week Arlington County mailed out a brochure detailing alternatives to traveling around the County by car. One of the things they highlighted was the Arlington Loop: a 17 mile loop combining four of the County’s bike trails.
I gave Instagram’s new Hyperlapse app a try today and recorded my ride through the new Potomac Yard Park in Alexandria.
Between the cute guy who practically broke his neck gawking at me and the two tween girls yelling “HAWT” and then dissolving into giggles, I’m feeling pretty good about all this.
I headed out on a new trail today with a 20.2 mile round trip stretch goal to reach the Beltway on the W&OD Trail.
Here I am, halfway across the Wilson Bridge on the Virginia Observation Deck. (And I can feel it shake every time a heavy truck speeds by.)
