Throwback Thursday

Aretha Franklin sings at the 2009 Inauguration

It’s not a throwback to the 56th Inaugural Ceremonies because we swore in our first African American president. Nor because it was the largest inaugural celebration in the nation’s history. It is because of Aretha Franklin’s amazing hat. It took on a complete life of its own. NPR wrote an article about it and so did The New York Times. A Facebook group was created for it (of which I’m a member) as well as a Flickr group. Heck, the Smithsonian actually asked Ms. Franklin for the hat!

I compiled a list of my Facebook status updates during the ceremonies.
